We are thrilled that The List TV interviewed Dr. Gladys recently about her upcoming book. “It’s your job to do the amazing work that you’ve been trained to do and then support the patient as they do their own healing.” says Dr. Gladys. They visited her locally and taped an amazing segment you can also watch on YouTube.
Coupled with a montage of old family photos, this 3-minute video covers all the bases. Her philosophy of holistic medicine also shines bright. She tells the story of her marriage to Bill, her life in India, and of course, the founding of the American Board of Holistic Medicine. That is where she got the name “the Mother of Holistic Medicine”.
“It’s your job to do the amazing work you’ve been trained to do, then go support to patient on their own journey to healing,” she says of her background. Dr. Gladys faced discrimination as one of the few women in medicine at the time. She is also a cancer survivor.
Dr. Gladys McGarey is beaming as we talks about her growing, loving family. She is a great-great grandmother now and is pictured with 24 grand, great and great-great grandchildren. At 102 years old, you can see how much of the world she has impacted and how she continues to make her life magical. She walks 3,800 steps every day. “Sometimes I make it, but every day I try.” she brags.
She even is kind enough to offer advice before Mother’s Day. “Try to be present, enjoy the moment, and avoid smothering.” as narrated in the video segment. Over-mothering, as she calls it, can lead to children not fully understanding their strengths and values in life. And as the great-great grandmother to some, I’d say she knows a thing or two about it.
